Zip ties
Zip ties or cable ties to secure tags to clothing. 4" are cheapest and are a good size for use on clothing. Note: Cable ties are mandatory - no safety pins except when impossible to zip tie!!! Zip ties are cheaper, easier to use and prevent tag removal. Zip ties can be attached through the tag, belt loop, button hole, etc. Be sure to try to open the zip tie to ensure you secured it properly. There is a right side and a wrong side.
Zip ties are available locally in the electrical department of Home Depot, Lowes, Northern Tool, and Wal-Mart.
8" zip ties or a string or shorter zip ties are great for items that will hang to display like shoes and accessories.
Do not ever zip tie items to hangers since customers need to try on items!

Tagging Gun
A tagging gun is allowed IN THE SEAM ONLY but zip ties are always more secure! Please use two tag pins per tag. Using a tagging gun is better than attaching tags with safety pins for tagless items without a way to use a zip tie.

Safety Pins
Safety pins are not accepted unless it is impossible to attach tags with zip ties as in the case of many new "tagless" tees and PJs and you don't have a tagging gun. A tag gun is a better option for tagless items. Be careful not to damage delicate knit fabric! A tagging gun is preferred over safety pins but use zip ties are best! You may attach slippery clothing items to hangers with safety pins if you've used the largest possible hanger and the item won't stay put. Any size or type of safety pins is accepted as needed.

Adult Hangers
Adult hangers are required for children's size 3 & up and all adult sizes and may be plastic, velvet, or wire, but any color of plastic or velvet hangers are preferred rather than wire. Wire hangers are allowed but not preferred. They snag fabrics and are hard to separate on the racks. We recommend you ask Old Navy for hangers, especially on Sunday afternoons. They throw away hundreds every day!
Shake your item to see if it stays on the hanger! If not, use a larger hanger. Pants hangers work best for pants.
See video on How to Tag page for how to use wire hangers for pants.

Ziploc Bags
Ziploc bags (assorted sizes) for toys, socks, etc. Large sizes are the cheapest at Dollar Tree. Be certain to seal them shut with packing tape and attach the tag to the outside of the bag. Items that can be displayed without putting them in a Ziploc should not be put in one - for example, shoes, slippers, socks, bibs, etc. Only use Ziplocs when necessary. They make items more difficult to view. Clear large heavy trash bags work well for oversized items like huge Matchbox tracks or comforters - just zip tie shut.
