Pricing Your Items for KE
The golden rules of pricing
Consignors price their own items, but remember: Items that are priced too high simply will not sell! For Kids EveryWEAR, we set a minimum price of $2 for all clothing. If a clothing item is not worth $2 but is in excellent, like-new condition, please pair it with a matching item of the exact same brand and size and describe both items clearly on the tag, adding a duplicate tag from our system to the 2nd item.
Minimum Prices: clothing has a $2 minimum price — that's the only minimum. Toys, gear, housewares, shoes, accessories, undergarments, and everything else have no minimum, so price them however you like — just remember our rule that nothing may be priced higher than 50% of retail.
- The "Math" Method: Price brand-name items in excellent condition at approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of the original retail price. Please do not price any item higher than 50% of the lowest retail price available.
- Focus on Full Price: Most of our shoppers shop only on our Full Price days, not our Discount Days. Price to sell at full price!
- Be a Shopper: Put yourself in their shoes! Ask: "Would I buy this item, in this condition, for this price?" Carefully consider age and condition.
- Leave Emotions at the Door: Try not to attach sentimental feelings to your price. Emotion leads to over-pricing (and unsold items!).
Know your competition!
Supply and demand is real. Keep in mind your competition and whether there will be plenty of items like yours to choose from:
- Infant Sizes (0-12mo): There is always a plentiful selection of like-new infant sizes 0-9 months because they get so little wear. Price these on the low side! Please bring only nearly new 0-12mo items, and if teeny sizes show any wear, we ask you to donate them to a great charity instead.
- Boys' Clothing (2T-6): These are harder to find! We have the fewest items in 2T and above boys' sizes. If you have like-new, basic, name-brand boys' gear in these sizes, you will likely get the higher end of our recommended pricing.
The nitty-gritty: Discounts & tags
Discount Options: We strongly recommend using the 75% off discount option so you sell the highest percentage of your items.
- MAX DISCOUNT NONE (Red): The price will print in red or "red" will print under the price. Use no discount sparingly for those treasures you'd rather get back than discount.
If you do not have a color printer, we require that you circle the price with a red pen. - MAX DISCOUNT 50% (Green): Your items reduce to 50% off for both the 50% off day and 50% off on the 75% off day. It will print the word "green" under the price and print the price in green.
If you do not have a color printer, we require that you circle the price with a green pen. - MAX DISCOUNT 75% (Black): Reduces to 50% on the second-to-last day and then to 75% off on the final day. It will print the price in black and print the word "black" under the price. You do not have to circle these!
Tag Colors: white = donate leftovers before Pickup; your assigned color = keep (pick up) your leftovers. Using white? Choose the 75% max discount so items still sell. Full details on How to Tag.
Warning: Using the wrong cardstock color, thin paper, or descriptions shorter than 3 words costs you a 55% fee.
See the How to Tag page for important details about tagging your items so they will sell well!
